Overview

The Fundraising Lead Trustee plays a key governance role in ensuring Sailability@Whitefriars has a sustainable financial future. Working alongside the Treasurer and the Fundraising Team, this trustee provides strategic oversight, guidance, and accountability for all fundraising activity — including grants, events, digital campaigns, and community fundraising.

Purpose of the Role

• Ensure the charity has a clear, effective, and diverse fundraising strategy

• Lead and direct the Fundraising Team

• Provide governance oversight for funding applications, partnerships, events, and campaigns

• Help the Board understand risks, opportunities, and long term financial needs

Key Responsibilities

• Champion fundraising at Board level

• Review and support major funding applications

• Ensure fundraising activity aligns with charity objectives and legal requirements

• Oversee and encourage development of wider fundraising channels:

  • • Events and community fundraising

    • Crowdfunding and digital campaigns

    • Corporate partnerships and sponsorship

    • Legacy and donor engagement

• Monitor progress against the Funding Plan and report to the Board

• Help build relationships with key funders and partners

• Support the Treasurer in ensuring financial sustainability

• Encourage innovation, new ideas, and responsible risk taking in fundraising

This trustee helps secure the funding that keeps Sailability thriving — enabling disabled sailors to access high quality equipment, coaching, racing opportunities, and a welcoming community. It is a role with long term influence and real meaning.

Overview

Sailability@Whitefriars provides life changing sailing opportunities for disabled people and those with long term health conditions. To sustain and grow this work, we rely on strong, imaginative, and proactive fundraising. With our current multi year grants ending soon, we are expanding the Fundraising Team to help secure the charity’s financial future.

The Fundraising Team works closely with the Leadership role of the Funding Trustee an and Treasurer and reports to the Board of Trustees and the Management Team. Most work is carried out behind the scenes, but always grounded in a clear understanding of Sailability’s mission, values, and impact.

You will work closely with other members of the team and under the leadership of the Fund Raising Trustee

Purpose of the Team

• To secure funding for the charities activities and future development

• Identify and secure new funding streams

• Build relationships with funders, partners, and supporters

• Prepare high quality funding applications

• Deliver monitoring and reporting for funders

• Develop wider fundraising activity including events, campaigns, and digital channels

Key Responsibilities

• Research and explore a wide range of funding opportunities

• Assemble funding applications with detailed costings and budgets

• Build partnerships with prospective funders and supporters

• Prepare supporting evidence, case studies, and impact information

• Supply monitoring and progress reports to funders

• Develop and support additional fundraising channels, including:

  • • Events (community events, open days, sponsored activities)

    • Crowdfunding campaigns (e.g., Crowdfunder, JustGiving)

    • Digital fundraising (social media appeals, online campaigns)

    • Corporate sponsorships and partnerships

    • Community fundraising (local groups, clubs, and donors)

• Meet as required to share tasks, track progress, and plan future work

What Fundraising Volunteers Bring
